Eco One: The Solar Powered Mobile Office

Exterior of solar office

Justin Ckezepis came into Freeman's Stereo Video in Lake Norman (Cornelius, NC) one day looking to get some solar gear installed in his new Ford transit van because he had quite the interesting idea: he wanted to transform the van into a mobile real estate closing office.

Travis Grimm of Freeman's jumped at the chance to work on such a unique project and eventually he took the reins on the entire build of the office in addition to the solar installation.

"The cool part of this was he gave me some visual direction on needs and then let me loose to build this project and maximize every ounce of space," said Travis.

The solar side of the project included 6 panels that generated the power which then transitioned into the Renogy commander that handled the output to the power inverter. This was all coupled with 3 x 12volt gel cell batteries. Travis then built the desk for paperwork signing etc. with adequate seating space for the customer and his clientele. The main desk holds 2 monitors, a computer, and it's equipped with a scanner/printer/fax machine.

The cherry on top is the Cradle Point mobile internet access to handle all  of the demands needed to truly be an office on wheels. The van is protected with a Viper 5906 alarm with all the added modules to keep it safe, secure, and in one place.

"The outcome was spot on as this thing can be self operational for days to stay working if needed," said Travis. "I can't thank Justin enough for letting me push the bar higher at my store."
